Assistant Financial Manager

Tarsus On Demand is looking for an Assistant Financial Manager to assist in overseeing and managing financial and accounting operations, ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and regulatory compliance while providing key financial insights to support decision-making.

 

Overview:

  • Support financial decision-making by collecting, analysing, investigating, and reporting financial data.
  • Streamline and automate possible month-end financial reporting procedures to ensure accurate reports are produced timeously.
  • Implement processes and controls to assist with improving the internal financial control environment.
  • Identify and investigate anomalies in financials to ensure that actual performance is a true reflection of business performance and results achieved.


Monthly Reporting

  • Perform appropriate general ledger reconciliations for all accounts within the trial balance.
  • Compare actual performance to budget and prior year and obtain reasons for anomalies.
  • Preparation of monthly management packs for Board members to gain an understanding of business performance.
  • Review bi-weekly cashflows and assist with managing the company’s cash flow.


Tax Compliance

  • Prepare tax packs and computations for both income and provisional tax.
  • Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns with supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and submit annual income tax returns with supporting schedules.
  • Prepare tax deliverables, including SARS audit documentation, and address queries, and objections.
  • Adhere to Group reporting on tax matters.


Annual Audit

  • Assist in managing and coordinating the annual financial audit.
  • Preparation of supporting schedules for the compilation of annual financial statements.
  • Review of annual financial statements drafted by external consultants.

Budget and Strategy Plan

  • Assist in managing and coordinating the annual financial audit.
  • Preparation of supporting schedules for the compilation of annual financial statements.

General Duties

  • Monitor loans with the Group to ensure no idle cash in accounts for optimal interest earned or paid.
  • Review of supplier payment reconciliations and payments as and when required.
  • Assist with technical support and computations for all complex accounting transactions and events when they arise.

Staff Management

  • Maintain good relationships with line manager and peers to ensure the building of an effective team.
  • Endeavor to solve problems timeous, both customer-related and within the finance department.
  • Demonstrate appropriate leadership skills aimed at enhancing both motivation levels and productivity of peers.

Manage Personal Development

  • Attend training scheduled per the development plan, demonstrating skills and knowledge acquired.
  • Ensure that functional knowledge is relevant and continually updated.
  • Use initiative to research relevant information to keep abreast with changes and new developments in the field.
  • Exhibit a commitment to learning from others within the team.
  • Ensure that functional knowledge is relevant and continually updated by attending weekly training sessions when offered.

Experience, Qualifications, Skills, and Other Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12, or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or similar
  • Honours in Accounting or similar would be advantageous
  • Articles in an accounting firm would be advantageous
  • Professional Membership registration: SAIPA, CIMA, or similar
  • 3 – 5 years experience in the same or similar role
  • Broad knowledge of accounting practices and process
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Administrative management experience, with responsibility for maintaining records
  • Experience in Pastel Evolution would be advantageous
  • Ability to conduct and develop strategic business conversations at senior levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong planning and organising skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure, cope with stress, and the ability to meet deadlines
