The breach at South Africa’s Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing vulnerability of organisations to cyberattacks, with the personal data of millions potentially compromised.

ESET’s Threat Report for the latter half of 2023 paints a concerning picture of the current state of cybersecurity, with a marked increase in ransomware attacks. The common practice of paying ransoms only fuels the cycle of extortion, detracting from the investment in necessary cybersecurity measures.
